Dual Electrical Generator Failure

šŸ›« Scenario Setup

FL350, night IMC. Left IDG trips, then Right IDG trips within 90 seconds. APU not running.

šŸ’„ Failure Injection

L IDG FAULT then R IDG FAULT. Both generator buses lost. Essential bus on battery only.

🧠 MEMORY ITEMS – 30 Second Standard

⚠ These items MUST be performed from memory BEFORE opening the QRH. No reference permitted.
  1. APU → START immediately
  2. If APU fails → MAYDAY
  3. EMERGENCY DESCENT → nearest airport
  4. BATTERY TIME IS LIMITED

šŸ“‹ Required Actions (Sequence)

  1. Attempt APU start immediately
  2. If APU starts: restore electrical power via APU generator
  3. If APU fails: battery power only – extremely limited time
  4. Declare MAYDAY immediately
  5. Emergency descent – land without delay
  6. Identify what systems remain on essential bus
  7. Prepare for instrument approach with degraded avionics
  8. Notify ATC – request vectors to nearest airport with ILS

āœ… Evaluation Points

  • APU start attempted immediately
  • MAYDAY declared without delay
  • Emergency descent initiated
  • Landing not deferred – time critical on battery

āŒ Common Errors (UNSAT)

  • Not attempting APU start
  • Continuing cruise on battery power
  • Delayed MAYDAY declaration

šŸŽ“ What the Instructor / Examiner Watches For

TIMING STANDARDS
  • Correct QRH: within 60 seconds of recognition
  • ATC notification: when safety allows
AUTOMATIC UNSATISFACTORY
  • Operating wrong system off
  • No divert decision when required
