Landing Gear Unsafe Indication

🛫 Scenario Setup

On approach, gear selected down. Two green, one red/unsafe for nose gear. Position unclear.

💥 Failure Injection

Gear selected DOWN. Left and right main: GREEN. Nose gear: RED (unsafe).

📋 Required Actions (Sequence)

  1. Cycle gear up and down once – observe indication change
  2. If still unsafe: QRH – Alternate Gear Extension
  3. Alternate gear extension: pull nose gear alternate handle / pneumatic extension
  4. Verify all three green before landing
  5. If nose gear still not confirmed: tower inspection, low pass
  6. Brief crew for possible nose gear collapse landing
  7. Emergency services alerted
  8. Consider fuel burn to reduce landing weight

✅ Evaluation Points

  • Gear cycled before alternate extension
  • Alternate extension procedure followed correctly
  • Tower inspection requested if still uncertain
  • Emergency services notified

❌ Common Errors (UNSAT)

  • Landing without confirming gear position
  • Not requesting tower inspection for uncertain indication
  • Not briefing crew for contingency

🎓 What the Instructor / Examiner Watches For

TIMING STANDARDS
  • Correct QRH: within 60 seconds of recognition
  • ATC notification: when safety allows
AUTOMATIC UNSATISFACTORY
  • Operating wrong system off
  • No divert decision when required
