Landing Gear Unsafe Indication
🛫 Scenario Setup
On approach, gear selected down. Two green, one red/unsafe for nose gear. Position unclear.
💥 Failure Injection
Gear selected DOWN. Left and right main: GREEN. Nose gear: RED (unsafe).
📋 Required Actions (Sequence)
- Cycle gear up and down once – observe indication change
- If still unsafe: QRH – Alternate Gear Extension
- Alternate gear extension: pull nose gear alternate handle / pneumatic extension
- Verify all three green before landing
- If nose gear still not confirmed: tower inspection, low pass
- Brief crew for possible nose gear collapse landing
- Emergency services alerted
- Consider fuel burn to reduce landing weight
✅ Evaluation Points
- Gear cycled before alternate extension
- Alternate extension procedure followed correctly
- Tower inspection requested if still uncertain
- Emergency services notified
❌ Common Errors (UNSAT)
- Landing without confirming gear position
- Not requesting tower inspection for uncertain indication
- Not briefing crew for contingency
🎓 What the Instructor / Examiner Watches For
TIMING STANDARDS
- Correct QRH: within 60 seconds of recognition
- ATC notification: when safety allows
AUTOMATIC UNSATISFACTORY
- Operating wrong system off
- No divert decision when required
