Low Visibility Takeoff (CAT I)

🛫 Scenario Setup

KIAH Runway 27. RVR 1800 ft (CAT I minimums). Ensure runway centerline lighting and high-intensity runway lighting available. Takeoff performance verified for wet runway.

💥 Failure Injection

Low RVR takeoff – standard procedures; verify crew familiar with LVO (Low Visibility Operations) requirements.

📋 Required Actions (Sequence)

  1. Verify LVO authorization in OpSpecs
  2. Takeoff minimums met – RVR at or above authorized minimums
  3. Line up precisely on runway centerline
  4. Use instrument references immediately on roll
  5. Rotate precisely at VR – do not delay

✅ Evaluation Points

  • Crew verifies LVO authorization before departure
  • RVR monitored and called by PM
  • Transition to instruments immediately on rotation
  • ILS or FD guidance used for initial climb

❌ Common Errors (UNSAT)

  • Departing below authorized RVR minimums
  • Looking for runway reference after rotation instead of instruments
  • Not briefing takeoff alternate
