👥 CRM Scenarios
Rejected Takeoff (RTO) – Below V1
🛫 Scenario Setup
KIAD Runway 01C, VMC, wind calm. Full-length takeoff. Engine malfunction indication injected at 90 KIAS (below V1 of 135 KIAS).
💥 Failure Injection
Engine vibration indication + EICAS CAUTION at 90 KIAS – well below V1.
📋 Required Actions (Sequence)
- PF calls 'Reject' simultaneously retracting thrust levers to IDLE
- Maximum braking applied – autobrake MAX or manual full braking
- Speed brakes (spoilers) armed and deployed
- Reverse thrust: maximum reverse selected immediately; symmetric
- Directional control maintained on centerline
- Reverse stowed before 60 KIAS
- Aircraft brought to full stop
- Evacuation decision assessed – communicate with FA
- ATC notified; fire/rescue requested if fire
✅ Evaluation Points
- RTO initiated ONLY below V1
- Simultaneous throttle retard and braking
- Maximum reverse selected within 2 seconds
- Centerline maintained within ±10 ft
- Reverse stowed before 60 KIAS
❌ Common Errors (UNSAT)
- RTO initiated ABOVE V1 (automatic UNSAT unless aircraft incapable of flight)
- Delayed brake application after throttle retard
- Asymmetric reverse thrust causing directional control issue
- Forgetting to notify ATC and FA
🎓 What the Instructor / Examiner Watches For
TIMING STANDARDS
- Gear up at positive rate: immediate
- Flap schedule: at correct speeds
- Checklist: before designated gate
AUTOMATIC UNSATISFACTORY
- Gear up before positive rate
- Below Vref at any time on final
- Continued approach below DH with no visual
